OUTDOOR SKETCHING CLASS

Learn to draw anything you see, simply, quickly and effectively in this 2-part sketching course

Workshop will be conducted by Andrew tan and me

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will learn how to capture the scenes of your everyday life using the contour drawing approach with pen, paper, and some colour. This is an outdoor sketching class but NOT a painting class where you spend 2 hours capturing a scene. Instead, you will learn how to sketch scenes quickly and loosely in a handy sketchbook while you’re on the go, whether you are waiting for your food to arrive at the hawker centre, standing in a crowded MRT train on your way home, or while soaking in the sights during a holiday trip overseas.

In the 1st session, you will learn how to translate scenes as shapes and how to record them down as line, texture and value on paper. This will enable you to draw anything you see, whether they be buildings, cars, people, or bushes. We will have the teaching segment around a large table at the food centre and practice sketching around Holland Village.

In your 2nd session, you will learn how to identify perspective vanishing points and horizon lines when observing scenes around you. This skill will enhance your ability to depict seemingly complex angles with greater accuracy. Additionally, you will acquire the knowledge of strategically selecting and applying colours to infuse dimensional depth into your sketches. We will have the teaching segment around a large table at the Margaret Drive Hawker Centre and practice sketching around Margaret Drive and Queenstown.

WHO IS THIS SUITABLE FOR?

Anyone wanting to learn to sketch the world around them using the contour drawing approach.

WHERE AND WHEN?

1st session:

Holland Village Food Centre. (5 mins from Holland Village MRT Station)

16 Sept, Saturday, 9am-12pm

2nd session:

the newly renovated Margaret Drive Hawker Centre.

(5 mins from Queenstown MRT Station)

Please make sure that you are able to attend both sessions before signing up.

DO I NEED TO HAVE DRAWING SKILLS?

You don’t need any prior drawing skills/experience to join. This is a beginner sketching class.

DO I NEED TO BRING MY OWN ART MATERIALS?

Nope! All materials will be provided for you. You will receive a carefully selected basic set of tools, materials and an A5 sketchbook to get you started on your sketching journey. But If you already have nice watercolour paints and brushes, feel free to bring them along.

It will also be a good idea to bring a small stool (from Daiso), waterbottle, hat and an umbrella. It will make things a little more comfortable for you. But this optional!

FEE: $220 (Covers both sessions)

DURATION: Each class is 3hrs

RESTRICTION: You need to be 14 yrs or older

CLASS SIZE: 7 students max
